Carnelian for Creativity

Carnelian is about creativity and connects with the second Chakra, Sacral or Swadhistana in Sanskrit. This is the home of our creativity, passion and sensuality, and how we connect with society.

Sacral Chakra representation

They say that we connect with our Chakras in periods of seven years. If this is accurate, our second chakra is engaged and maturing from the ages of 7 to 14 and again from 57 to 63. Consider what you were experiencing between those ages.

As children, we are stepping out into the world of education and beginning to separate from home. Many of us begin to experience the changes that puberty brings during this time of our lives. As adults, we begin transitioning from the workplace into retirement, considering all of the changes that will bring. All of these things and more influenced the development of your second Chakra and correlates to how we need to bring balance now.

The second Chakra is tied to the water element. As a women, this is easy for me to understand as I think about the parts of my physical body that are said to be governed by the second Chakra. They include the urinary tract and the reproductive system. We call them “creative juices” for a reason!

Carnelian is projective and tied to fire which may seem counter to the water aspect of the second Chakra, however; it is a form of Chalcedony which is receptive and a water element stone. The fire of Carnelian stokes the flames of our passions, fueling our creative desires.

Sticking to the water theme, I like to infuse the energetic attributes of Carnelian into a crystal elixir using solar energy. This incorporates both the fire and water, offering a full spectrum of support for the Sacral Chakra and what it governs. I am also frequently guided to use Carnelian in Energy Balancing Sessions.

When do I reach for Carnelian for myself? Anytime that I need to feel creative, this can range from making magic in the kitchen to sitting down and writing to connect with you. Feeling connected to others is also part of what Carnelian can support. While there are many other stones that support the Sacral Chakra, Carnelian is one of my favorites. It works well for me and many others that I know.
